Iran Watch: Democrats Have Never Recovered from Vietnam

Removing evil dictators has become a race against technological time.

The modern Democrat is against Trump’s bombing of Iran. Some attribute this opposition simply to their hate for Donald Trump. While that plays a role, the truth is that the Democrat Party has never recovered from the Vietnam War and remains timid if not a failure on the World stage.

It wasn’t always that way for the Democrats.

Democrat Woodrow Wilson led America into World War I despite his 1916 reelection campaign of keeping the U.S. out of the War. Once he was elected and changed his mind, he stated the War was necessary to make the World “safe for democracy.”

It was Democrat Frank Deleno Roosevelt who declared War on Japan marking the U.S.’ entry into the War whereby America would become the World’s “arsenal of democracy.”

Of course, it was Democrat Harry Truman who used nuclear weapons to defeat Japan. It was also Harry Truman, without a Congressional declaration of war, that sent U.S. troops into the Korean War.

Democrat John F. Kennedy vastly increased U.S. personnel in Vietnam, from so-called “advisors” to over 16,000 miliary personnel, including Special Forces. It was also John F. Kennedy that authorized the invasion of Cuba to overthrow Castro.

Finally, it was Democrat Lyndon Johnson that made the Vietnam War a U.S. ground troops War sending over 500,000 troops to War. It was a War that saw over 58,000 U.S. troops die and countless injured and maimed - all without a Congressional Declaration of War despite the Democrats stranglehold on Congress at that time.

The Vietnam War fractured the Democrat Party. Lyndon Johnson, who otherwise would have marched to reelection, instead walked away from the White House as anti-war sentiment built up within his party.

The political argument became whether you supported “guns versus butter” – kitchen table domestic concerns or war.

Instead of Johnson’s reelection, the 1968 Election revived the career of Richard Nixon and placed him in the presidency with two resounding election victories.

The 1960s branded the Democrats as the Party of Protests as they protested the war, civil rights, a sexual revolution and more. It was a moniker that lasted into the 1970s. It also resulted in Republicans holding the White House 20 out of 24 years between 1969 and 1993.

Stated plainly, with regard to foreign policy, the Democrat Party has never recovered from the Vietnam war.

World War I, World War II and Korea were successes under their watch. Vietnam ended miserably for the Democrats, and they have never had a foreign policy president since.

President Clinton saw the rise of al Qaeda. President Obama saw the rise of ISIS and funded Iran and otherwise allowed it access to international funds – although he did order the death of Osama bin Laden. Russia invaded Ukraine and Obama sent blankets.

President Biden’s did the same with Iran, allowed for the explosion of Iran’s proxy war against Israel and a second Russian invasion of Ukraine. While it is true Democrats supported funding Ukraine, it cannot be said they succeeded in ending a war that started under their watch.

Instead of foreign policy successes, the Democrats of today have become, almost exclusively, the party of big government programs at home. They have also returned to their role as the Party of Protests, which started in earnest Under President Obama.

So, dutifully to their Party base, the Democrats are now protesting the Iran War.

The problem for the United States and the World is that warfare is no longer confined to a battlefield map.

As the Iran War is demonstrating, the United States forces are so superior to any other country. Meanwhile the communist forces and traditional military weapons of Russia and China have proven much less effective by comparison.

That is not the end of the discussion, however, on modern warfare.

We live in the age of 5^th Generation warfare gray-zone where the enemies of freedom are conducting a forever war inclusive of cyber-attacks seeking to take down the power grid, our financial institutions and more. They finance social disruption on American’s homeland and terrorism.

That warfare being waged by the likes of Iran, Russia and China is not new or even imminent. Instead, given their relative military weakness compared to the U.S., that asymmetric 5^th Generation warfare is a constant and growing option for them – and likely the most effective in the years ahead.

Every day they seek economic ruin in the U.S. as these two headlines demonstrate:

In the days after the bombing started, Iran succeeded in harming a major American company Stryker as this NBC headline notes:

FBI seizes website tied to Iranian cyberattack on U.S. company - The Iran-linked hacking group had been quiet since causing significant disruptions to American medical company Stryker

If they succeed just once in taking down a U.S. bank’s operations or the New York Stock Exchange, even for a day, the economic consequences would be massive.

That is the reality of the world today. It is a reality that will only become more dangerous as quantum computing takes hold.

In plain terms, removing evil dictators has become a race against technological time.

That is what is at stake as the 2030s approach.

We cannot simply protest it. We need leaders and a strong party that prepares for it.
